La Chica

A Feature film by Bruno Gantillon

Produced by Odessa Films

Release in France : 21/08/1996

    Synopsis

Janek, a Polish exile, has chosen to withdraw from civilisation, to a ramshackle house in the middle of nowhere. He calls it the "asshole" of the world. On the run from the police, his nephew Stan with his friend Angel in tow comes to hide out for a spell after a botched break-in. In this deserted sun-drenched corner of South America the vodka flows like water and Janek's saxophone makes the stones weep. Life drifts slowly by uninterrupted... Until one morning along the one and only macadam road in this godforsaken spot, comes Julie. Fleeing from two killers she dives into Angel's car. Julie is a bomshell runaway, and dangerous too ! In the space of three days this "chica" turns the lives of her three protectors upside down, as each in their own way fall for her charms...

    About

"La Chica" was shot in 23 days in Cuba : in Moa, to be precise, an open nickel mine 700 kms from Havana. In this bizarre setting, in this "asshole" of the world the protagonists play out their despair, their passion and their violence. What I talk about in my films is passion. "Servante et maîtresse", "L'Intruse", "La Chica"... they all deal with this same overwhelming, uncontrollable feeling that can make our lives either heaven or hell."
