The incredible wave of emotion that was felt internationally when Yves Montand died demonstrates the importance of the man in the hearts and minds of the public : he was much more than a talented actor and a charming singer. This biographical film is inspired by the book of the same name which is available in translation in around ten countries already. Drawing on a rich source of archival material, which includes images of the singer in music halls, news items, hitherto unpublished and personal photographs, numerous songs, and a significant number of feature films. An unusual aspect of the film is the fact that the commentary throughout is done by Montand himself. Through him, we meet Piaf, Marylin Monroe, Kruschov, Kennedy, Costas Gravas and of course, Simone Signoret. We meet Montand the politician and the artist and reveal in more intimacy the complex character that he was.
