In a village on top of a remote hill in the depths of the Serbian countryside live young Tsane, his grandfather, and their cow Cvetka. With their neighbor, an elementary school teacher, they are the village’s only inhabitants. One day, Tsane’s grandfather announces that he will soon die. Before this is to happen, he makes Tsane promise that he’ll cross the three hills to reach the nearest town where he’ll sell Cvetka at the market. With the money he earns, he must buy an icon and a memento. Lastly, he must find a wife. When he arrives in the town, Tsane has no problem fulfilling his grandfather’s first wishes. But how can he go about finding a bride and convincing her to return with him to the village before his grandfather passes away?
