UniFrance Films announced the winner of its Grand Prize for Best Short Film at Cannes on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
Just Before Losing Everything by Xavier Legrand (KG Productions), starring Léa Drucker, was awarded the uniFrance Films Grand Prize. This short film thus continues its brilliant career after winning a string of awards at this year's Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
The Canal+ Spain Special Prize was awarded to Women's Letters by Augusto Zanovello (Pictor Media Animation, XBO Films), while the Special Prize sponsored by SBS Australia went to Retention by Thomas Kruithof (2425 Films). The jury members included Guadalupe Arensburg Caellas (Canal+ Spain), Marie Stroud (SBS Australia), Aurélien Recoing, Jérémy Azencott (the director awarded the uniFrance Films Prize in 2012), Mathieu Bompoint (producer at Mezzanine Films), David Campi-Lemaire (assistant director), and Claude Dupuy (LVT).
This award is the most visible example of the work undertaken throughout the year by uniFrance Films' Short Film Department, under the direction of Christine Gendre: selective and automatic subtitling aid schemes, logistical support for films entered in festivals, travel assistance for filmmakers, support for distributors, and the publication of the Short Cuts DVDs, not to mention the Short Film Gallery, a BtoB service that allows professionals to view short films in full length.
