The French Film Days in Budapest will take place March 1 through 9, 2013, in the presence of Olivier Assayas and Leos Carax.
Assayas' film, Something in the Air, is distributed by Vertigo Media in Hungary and will be released in April. Parallel to this, he will present a mini-retrospective comprising five of his films.
A total of ten films will be programmed and will be shown in six provincial towns.
A few days later, Leos Caraz will travel to Budapest for the preview of Holy Motors, which is distributed by Cirko.
Although French films in Hungary struggle to attract the thousands of spectators they drew ten years ago (121,000 spectators for majority-French films in 2011, compared to 520,000 five years earlier), many more of them are nevertheless lighting up screens, because the country now has almost ten companies focused on French cinema. 2012 was a red-letter year because 54 French films were released theatrically (39 of which were in French), being the highest number of titles ever released in this country since cinema exists!
