Released by Métropole Films Distribution last Friday on 30 prints, Of Gods and Men by Xavier Beauvois has jumped to the top of the charts for the version of the film released in Quebec.
Taking CAD$245,481 (for around 30,000 admissions) and claiming 11.2% of the market, Xavier Beauvois's film topped the charts for French-language films last weekend in Quebec. It boasted an impressive average of 8,622 admissions per French-language print.
It is also worth noting the success of Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard by Luc Besson, which also hit theaters in Quebec last weekend. Released by Alliance Vivafilm, the film took CAD$95,373 (around 11,000 admissions).
In the United States, Of Gods and Men was released last Friday in 33 theaters. Despite being denied an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign-Language Film category, the film earned the best per-print average of all films screened last weekend (9,300 admissions). This fine opening bodes well for the film's prospects across the Atlantic.
Of Gods and Men is slated for release in Japan next weekend.
