Riding high on its Academy Awards triumph, where “The Pianist” picked up 3 prestigious awards March 23 in Los Angeles, the film’s B.O. takings in North America shot up by 137% the weekend following the awards ceremony.
With added impetus from the 233 additional screens deployed by the film’s distributor, Focus Features (to make a total of 773 theaters), these results bring the Polanski film’s total box office takings to $23.6 million to date (Source: Variety Magazine).
“The Pianist” was produced by Les Films Alain Sarde, with international sales handled by Studio Canal. The film was released in the USA by Focus Features December 27, 2002.
