4 French films rank among the top grossers at the Japanese box office for the week of February 2 – 8.
Two French films have also been given major releases, making the week even more special . “Wasabi” (K2/JVC), with Jean Reno and Japanese star Ryoko Hirosue in the cast, was released in 221 prints, a record for a film in the French language. The “Besson” label attached to the film no doubt also has something to do with its 4th position at the box office.
The second important release this week was for “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (Gaga). It is presently playing in 89 theaters and has claimed 9th place at the box office. “Amélie from Montmartre” and “Vidocq”, the two other French films out on release, also continue to forge ahead brilliantly.
These four films combined can presently be seen on 450 Japanese screens, a record!
