The Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca will host the 3rd Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) from May 28 through June 6, organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association.
Adapting to its context – the festival coincides with the final week of the local election campaign – this year's event features a section entitled "Film & Politics." Another section will be dedicated to the relationship between the cinema and advertising. 150 foreign guests are expected at the festival, including the actor Rutger Hauer and the director David Lynch (who has not yet confirmed his participation). The number of estimated spectators: 20,000, with Cluj-Napoca renowned for its population's enthusiasm for the movies (394,000 spectators in local theaters in 2003). Some 90 productions will be showcased at the festival, which will also feature an annual meeting entitled the "South Eastern Europe Cinema Network," which gathers together film organizations of the region. Ministers and delegates from Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bosnia will attend the event. TV5 is promoting the event, sponsoring an award to be presented at the closing of the festival. The budget for the event is €450,000.
