Initial figures and trends for French works internationally in 2025

On the occasion of the 6th Export Day, Unifrance reveals the initial trends for French productions in movie theaters, at festivals, on SVOD platforms, and on television abroad during 2025.

The year 2025 is in line with the previous two years (2023 and 2024), with over 40 million admissions for French films, but without returning to the pre-Covid levels of 2018-2019.

French works in theaters (provisional data)

42.5 million estimated admissions
€272.0 million estimated box office revenues
An estimated 230 new films released
7 films each attracted more than 1 million admissions
Animated films accounted for one-third of total admissions
Latin America became the second largest geographical area in terms of audience numbers
Mexico, Italy, and Germany were the territories where the most tickets were sold

French works at festivals

20.0% of recent feature films selected for the 10 major international film festivals are French
France is the second most represented nationality at the 10 major international film festivals

French works on SVOD platforms (provisional data)

3.8% of new foreign releases on international SVOD platforms are French
France is the sixth most represented nationality on international SVOD platforms among new foreign releases
Germany and Turkey are the leading foreign countries in terms of new French releases, respectively in number (544) and share (9.9%).
Global SVOD platforms account for two-thirds of new French releases.

6.9% of first broadcasts of foreign works on international television channels are French
France is the third most represented nationality on international television channels among first broadcasts of foreign works
Spain is the leading foreign country in terms of French first broadcasts, both in terms of number (1,836) and share (10.7%)
