For this 34th MyFrenchShort, and as part of MyFrenchAnimationDays (MyFAD), Unifrance presents Ashen Sun, an animated short film by director Camille Monnier, available to watch for free worldwide on Youtube until April16, 2026.
Beneath a scorching sun, Charlie is bored stiff and dreams of going to the beach. But she is forced to look after a run-down motel with her cousin Jess, who lies sprawled out on her deckchair. The two teenagers don't get along and bicker at every opportunity. On the radio, the monotone voice of a prominent collapsology researcher predicts the imminent end of the world. The pool is empty, the sun is beating down, tension is rising: the ecological apocalypse announced on the airwaves suddenly bursts into reality.
A scathing look at pollution and the imminent ecological crisis, Ashen Sun has been selected for numerous international festivals (Locarno, Berlinale, Clermont-Ferrand, IndieLisboa, among dozens of others) and has won several awards, including Best Animation at Zinebi 2024.
