The Foreign Press x Unifrance Award, given by a jury of international journalists, has for the second time gone to a French TV movie selected for the Festival de la Fiction de La Rochelle, which took place from September 16 to 21.
Un autre père, written and directed by Pierre Linhart, produced by Storia Television, in co-production with ARTE France and Sequel Prod, and distributed by Mediawan Rights, was honored this year at the Festival de la Fiction de La Rochelle awards ceremony, which took place on Saturday, September 20, with comedian Antonia De Rendinger as the master of ceremonies.
Un autre père tells the story of Thibaut, 40, who is raising his 7-year-old son Gabriel, adopted in Africa, on his own. Faced with his son's crisis, he decides to return with Gabriel to Senegal in search of his biological mother, Yawa, whom he knew in the past. But another broken bond resurfaces during this journey, leading Thibaut to piece together his past love life and start a new family.
The cast of Un autre père, which will be broadcast on ARTE, includes Jean Le Peltier, Ladi Emeruwa, Tyron Bayinieni, Hélène Theunissen, and Martine De Souza.
We note that the jury of this year's Foreign Press x Unifrance Award was composed of journalists Cassie Jo Panayis (SA People, South Africa), Philippe Congiusti (RTS, Switzerland), and Cédric Petit (Le Soir, Belgium).
During their deliberations, the judges praised the quality of the films competing for the award and said of Un autre père: "In a selection rich in works rooted in questions about parenthood, Un autre père, an odyssey as intimate as it is universal, touched us with its sensitive and accurate approach in terms of writing, photography, and the performances of its actors."
