The 6th Fipadoc took place from January 19 to 27 in Biarritz, and closed with an impressive list of awards for French productions and co-productions.
Among the winners:
- Smoke Sauna Sisterhood by Anna Hints: Grand Prix International Documentary.
- The Wolf and The Shepherd by Louis Hanquet: Grand Prix National Documentary and the SACEM Original Score Award.
- Against the Tide by Sarvnik Kaur: Grand Prix Impact Documentary.
- Forced labour, SOS from a Chinese prisoner by Laëtitia Moreau: INA Madelen Audience Award.
- Invincible été by Stéphanie Pillonca: Prix Coup de Cœur dans les murs.
Unifrance took part in the Fipadoc Industry Days and its new format "The Panoramas of Documentary," initiated by the SCAM and Procirep. Three thematic panels were devoted to current documentary issues. One of the panels, entitled "Festivals: places of circulation in France and abroad" and based on case studies of three French successes on the international scene, was moderated by Daniela Elstner, Executive Director of Unifrance (photo). Producers Harriet Marin Jones, Myriam Weil, and Juliette Cazanave were on hand to share their experiences.
Conclusion of the Year of the Documentary
The 2024 edition marked the end of the Year of Documentary, launched in 2023 by Rima Abdul Malak, then Minister of Culture.
During the past year, Unifrance deployed a number of measures and worked tirelessly to support and promote French documentaries around the world, and to accompany documentary professionals internationally. In collaboration with the SCAM, Unifrance set up a travel assistance scheme enabling more than 50 directors of 45 films to travel to some 30 major international festivals and events.
Unifrance's efforts will not stop with the end of the Year of the Documentary, and the organization is looking forward to continuing its work to support and promote French documentary films internationally in 2024, in order to increase their visibility still further.
