The Dakar Court festival, which runs from December 11 to 16, has established itself as the must-attend short-film event on the African continent, and remains true to its guiding principle: to give pride of place to fiction, while promoting African youth and its diaspora. Unifrance is a partner in this adventure.
Filmmaker Alice Diop will preside over the jury for the official 2023 competition, which features 11 short films, including 5 by female directors.
Among them, seven are French productions or co-productions:
- The Kiss by Azedine Kasri (Algeria – France)
- In the Dark by Mor Talla Ndione (Senegal – France)
- I Promise You Paradise by Morad Mostafa (Egypt – France – Qatar)
- Here Ends the World We've Known by Anne-Sophie Nanki (Guadeloupe)
- Sira by Mariame N'Diaye (France)
- On my Father’s Grave by Jawahine Zentar (France – Morocco)
- Sèt Lam by Vincent Fontano (Reunion)
Since the beginning of the Dakar Court adventure, women artists have played a central role in the festival's life and history. 2023 is definitely the year that will put them even more in the spotlight, since most of them will be taking part in the various training courses and workshops offered during the week.
