The feature-length adventure is directed by David Moreau and produced by Maneki Films, Borsalino Productions, and Full House, with France 2 Cinéma and Pathé Films, and exported by Pathé Films.
Released in French cinemas in February 2022, King has since been exported to almost 50 foreign markets. Still in theaters a year and a half after its initial release, the film has passed the symbolic threshold of one million international admissions (€3.18 million in box office revenues).
Central and Eastern Europe provided King with 671,000 admissions, becoming its top export region. In Poland, the lion cub charmed 248,000 young and old at the end of 2022 (M2, €0.8 million), ranking in the local top five titles for two weeks. This result has just been overtaken by the latest release in Russia, with 360,000 spectators (Exponenta, €0.8 million). There were also 28,000 tickets sold in Hungary (ADS Service, €0.1 million) and 27,000 in the Baltic States (Acme, €0.14 million).
Although distant in geographical terms, but a very important market, Latin America is the other key region in the adventure film's international career, with almost 264,000 Latin Americans discovering it on the big screen in 2022. Unexpectedly, Peru narrowly edged out Colombia with 67,000 and 63,000 viewers respectively (BF, €0.18 million / Cine Colombia, €0.16 million). These two territories thus overtook the zone leader, Mexico (Corazón, 57,000 admissions and €0.15 million), followed by Ecuador (Cineplex, 25,000 and €0.1 million), Argentina (BF, 6,000 and €0.06 million), and Chile (BF, 12,000 and €0.05 million).
King is the first film by director David Moreau to attract over one million moviegoers outside France, and its success confirms foreign audiences' interest in French family and adventure productions.
