French immersive creation is once again in the spotlight this year in Venice, the highlight of the international XR calendar, with seven immersive works in Competition, one work Out of Competition, and many XR projects presented at the Gap Financing Market.
2022 marks the return of Venice Immersive Island, an island specially dedicated to immersive works in all their forms, where all of the festival's XR activities will be brought together: immersive installations, viewing stations, conference rooms, networking, social spaces... A unique setting for all the works that will receive their world premieres.
The Jury of the Competition of the Venice Immersive XR Extended Reality section, composed of May Abdalla, David Adler, and Blanca Li, will announce three awards: the Grand Jury Prize, Best Experience, and Special Jury Prize.
The following French works will be presented in the section's Competition: All Unsaved Progress Will Be Lost by Mélanie Courtinat; Ascenders by Jonathan Astruc and Jonathan Tamene, produced by BackLight Studio; Fight Back by creator Céline Tricart and produced by Marie Blondiaux at Red Corner (awarded at the Venice Gap Financing market in 2021); the latest work by Thomas Villepoux, Mandala - A brief Moment in Time, produced by Digital Rise; Rencontre(s), the latest work by Mathias Chelebourg, voiced by Marion Cotillard, produced by Atelier Daruma and Chanel; Eternelle Notre-Dame by Guillaume Martini, concept by Emissive; and Okawari by Landia Egal and Amaury La Burthe, produced by Tiny Planets.
All the French works selected in Competition are eligible for Unifrance support (travel and automatic funding) for Unifrance members.
Last but not least, the multi-awarded On the Morning You Wake (To The End Of The World), produced by Atlas V, will be presented Out of Competition.
