For its 4th edition, which will take place from June 9 through 13, 2021, the NewImages Festival sees things on a large scale: five-star programming and a renowned jury. Like its 2020 edition, the festival will take place in the heart of the French capital at the Forum des Images, its organizer, as well as in several satellite locations around the world.
After being one of the only festivals to have enjoyed an almost normal 2020 edition last September, the leading French festival of digital creation and virtual worlds returns to the Forum des Images nine months after its third edition.
This year, more than half of the selected works are French! France is represented by nine works in competition and three in the non-competitive section.
The jury, composed of Yaël Naim, Bertrand Mandico, Claude Barras, and Selly Raby Kane, will present the Masque d'Or and two Special Awards for Best VR and AR Work on Friday, June 11 at 6:30 pm.
New this year, UniFrance will award the prize for the best French XR work for export: the UniFrance / NewImages Festival Export Grant. Chosen by the jury, one of the French directors in competition will receive a €1000 grant to help promote their work internationally during the year.
An exceptional year calls for an exceptional event: NewImages Festival, Cannes XR, and Tribeca Film Festival have joined forces by proposing XR3, a virtual exhibition available on the Museum of Other Realities (MOR) app. The works will be available from June 9 to 20 for NewImages Festival and Tribeca, and during the whole Cannes XR for the latter.
Twenty satellite locations will also offer the unique opportunity to discover locally some 40 VR works selected by NewImages Festival, Cannes XR, and the Tribeca Film Festival, all over the world.
As part of the Journées pro (Professional Days), which will take place from June 9 through 11, the Deputy Managing Director of UniFrance, Axel Scoffier, will take part in a round table discussion for French professionals on the subject of the production economy of XR "Made in France." UniFrance will highlight its support systems and programs for international VR works. The debate, accessible to festival accredited guests, will take place on June 11 from 4 to 5 pm at the Forum des Images.
