For the first time, Unifrance publishes a report on the showcasing of French films on transactional Video on Demand platforms in Europe.
As part of a joint work with the European Audiovisual Observatory and the consultancy firm AQOA, Unifrance presents for the first time a report on the promotion of French films on transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms in Europe.
After several studies on the referencing of French films on video-on-demand platforms, i.e. the analysis of the number of titles present in the platforms' catalogues, UniFrance publishes this report on the promotion of films on video-on-demand, i.e. the analysis of the human or algorithmic editorialization of the catalogues.
Twenty-four transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms were analyzed in seven European territories during November 2019.
On all the platforms and showcasing blocks studied, French films account for 5% of the content showcased. American films make up the majority of content promoted on the platforms (62.3%), followed by European Union content (18.5%, excluding France).
French films are thus the third most promoted on the TVOD platforms studied.
The prominence of French films is highest (6.0%) in the blocks highlighting "new releases."
The platforms established in French-speaking Belgium showcase French films the most (13.9% of films screened on Walloon platforms are French films), followed by Russian platforms (8.5%).
