Alain Delon was unable to be present in Yokohama, but he recorded a short video message addressed to the city's authorities, which was screened at the opening ceremony and was met with enthusiastic applause. Delon is undoubtedly the most well-known French actor in Japan.
"Hello, I am Alain Delon, and, my dear Japanese friends, I am not able to be with you for this festival, but I wish you all an excellent festival and may the friendship between France and Japan live forever! Thank you."
