The Belgian filmmaker Jaco Van Dormael has joined the Directors' Jury for the 9th edition of MyFrenchFilmFestival!
Belgian film and theater director, and actor, Jaco Van Dormael started his film career directing short films.
In 1991, he made his first feature, Toto le héros, which won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the French César Award for Best Foreign Film. In 1996, his second film, The Eighth Day, was also presented at Cannes, where Daniel Auteuil and Pascal Duquenne jointly won Best Actor.
The director then launched into writing Mr. Nobody, an ambitious project made into a film that was released in 2010, starring Diane Kruger, Jared Leto, and Sarah Polley. The film met with critical success at the Venice International Film Festival during its premiere screening and won the Belgian Magritte Awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
His latest film to date, Le Tout Nouveau Testament, in which Benoît Poelvoorde plays the role of God alongside Yolande Moreau and Catherine Deneuve, was presented at the Directors’ Fortnight section at Cannes in 2015.
