The composer Alexandre Desplat wins his second Oscar
The French composer Alexandre Desplat was honored at the 2018 Oscars for his magnificent original score for Guillermo Del Toro's film The Shape of Water.
The composer, who won an Oscar for Best Original Score in 2013 for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel, has also been a nominee in this category on seven other occasions. Desplat is one of a small group of French composers who have enjoyed successful international careers, along with Maurice Jarre, Michel Legrand, Michel Colombier, and Georges Delerue.
France also featured in the Academy Awards list in another category, as the French producer (and international sales agent) Émilie Georges, through her production company La Cinéfacture, co-produced Call Me by Your Name, which was nominated in four categories and picked up the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
