The Spanish film festival came to a close last weekend, with its impressive list of award-winners including nine prizes for French productions.
One of the highlights of the closing ceremony of the San Sebastián International Film Festival was the presentation of the Kutxabank-New Directors' Award to Marine Francen (photo) for her debut film The Sower. In her emotion-filled acceptance speech, Francen sent out a strong message to the audience: "You can be a woman, a film director, and a mother at the same time. Go girls!"
Custody by Xavier Legrand, which was honored at this year's Venice Film Festival, collected two new awards, including the Audience Prize.
Braguino, the experimental medium-length film by Clément Cogitore, won the prestigious Prix Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award.
A few days prior to the ceremony, Agnès Varda was presented with the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award, marking the first time a woman filmmaker has won this award.
