Synopsis
On March 14, 1978, in Le Port, on Réunion Island, Rico Carpaye, aged 17, was murdered. The perpetrators of this far-right orchestrated punitive attack were never brought to justice. Nearly fifty years later, I retrace the chain of silence and discover that those responsible have always been known. Protected by the system, they continue to enjoy complete impunity to this day. Jean Fontaine was the first National Front Member of Parliament and a leading figure of the racially based colonial power structure. He conducted a fascistic political agenda to prevent La Reunion from achieving autonomy, independence, and recognition as a nation. Rico Carpaye's murder ultimately proves to be the visible tip of the iceberg. Beneath the surface lie the BUMIDOM programme, the Debré Ordinance, the deportation of the so-called Enfants de La Creuse, and the practice of forced abortions and sterilizations, all part of a broader system designed to deny La Reunion any alternative future.
This film is not a trial. It is an act of reparation.
