Synopsis
Year of Grace 1575.
Lorenzo de Cepeda, wealthy Spanish merchant, returning from Japan, must support his sister, Madre Teresa de Jesus, known as Avila,
He realizes that, by wanting to return to the original rule of Carmel, the Madre has attracted the enmities of her superiors and the Inquisition who reproach her for her numerous trips in order to found new convents, as well as to teach Mental Prayer and its commentaries on Holy Scripture, while this is prohibited for women.
In addition, one of her young nuns displays the stigmata of Christ on her body, speaks unknown languages and intercedes with demons for favors.
It will take all the support of his brother Lorenzo to get Teresa out of this mess.
