The small village of Espigoule turns a page of its history. Jean-Marc, newly retired, has sold his bar. After many hesitations, he finally accepts to go on vacation in Senegal with his friend Momo. Far from their Var borders in southern France, they encounter Modou, a Senegalese man with a knack for swindling, responsible for showing them around the country. Despite a difficult start for these Western suckers, every kind of mishap, and Jean-Marc's whining about the lack of comfort, a real friendship forms.
Fifteen years after the release of 4 Saisons d'Espigoule, Christian Philibert offers us a funny and touching film, a true feel-good movie that draws a bridge between two cultures that are, in the end, very similar. It's a story of an almost obvious encounter between the Provençal gift of the gab and Senegalese bonhomie, with this shared ability that both have of being able to laugh at everything.
