Synopsis
We don’t arrest someone who is hungry, but we are afraid of him. We’re afraid of the other, of dirt and disease that he might bring with him. We’re afraid of being invaded.
But we’re not afraid to kill.
“From the Other Side” is the last part of a triptych, formed with “From the East” (1993) and “South” (1999). In it, Chantal Ackerman documents the fate of Mexicans who attempt to cross the border into the United States so as to escape the poverty of their own country.
