Olga (Jane Birkin) is a bored housewife who is frequently left alone by her husband as he attends to business ventures on the road. She offers herself to Pierre (Jean-Louis Trintignant), but her husband's friend spurns her advances. Olga then makes herself available to Claude (Jean-Luc Bidneau), but the man is too consumed with poverty and his chronic unemployment to make a move. A shy restaurant employee finds Olga attractive, but he is too reluctant to pursue her. Olga finally decides that she may be better off living alone.
