Marat is the driver for Professor Kassimov, an imminent mathematician, in the major Kazakhstan city Almaty. When Marat crashes into a local nouveau riche’s Mercedes a real nightmare begins for him: the repair costs are prohibitive, obliging him to borrow money at an exorbitant rate of interest from a mafia boss. Threatened by his creditor, Marat is constrained to accept a ‘contract’: the erasing of his debt in exchange for the death of a journalist. And so he becomes a “killer.”
