Synopsis
A new town with its neat grid of identical dwellings. Fred, early thirties, is a skilled crane operator on the dole. The empty days weigh heavy on his soul. Luckily he has Lisa. She's younger than him. She has a small boy and a job as a switchboard operator in a medical lab. She's the breadwinner. Her love keeps Fred afloat. Then there's Michel, the friend and neighbour. Michel's a truck driver. He works irregular hours. One night Fred is woken by the noise of a tractortrailer parking near the house. Next morning, Michel Fred a favour. Fred asks no questions, even though he smells a rat, even though it smells like danger... like those two strangers in a van, lurking around Michel's house...

About
"I've always wanted to work with Vincent Lindon and when we decided to make a film together, I started writing with him in mind. I think he has great qualities, not just popular ones. He is one of the rare French actors who physically and intellectually adopts the characters that he plays. Fred is a simple guy who doesn't read books and Lindon can live with that. He has plaid students, lawyers and has attained a certain maturity. He wanted to be Fred. As for Clotilde Courau, she soon become the obvious choice. It's her first role as a mother with whom she has a sex life and a house that she keeps running. Lisa is a pylon, an anchor. Clotilde wanted that. You can be lucky at times : you ask actors to do exactly what they want to do. For Clotilde too, it was the right time." (Pierre Jolivet)
