Biography
Violette Gitton grew up in Rennes and made her first films within the Breton community while still at secondary school. In 2023, she directed the short fiction film Changing Rooms, which won numerous awards around the world (Unifrance Grand Prize, Alice Guy Prize, Best International Short Award at the Flickerfest Festival, etc.) before being nominated for a César Award in 2025. She then broadened her creative horizons with Malheur niveau 2, an audio documentary produced by ARTE Radio, in which she transparently and empathetically recorded the voices of patients in a Parisian psychiatric hospital. Winner of the prestigious Prix Europa and Italia 2025, this project confirmed her interest in the voices and experiences of marginalised people. She continues this commitment in the writing of her first feature film, Les Cicatrisés de Saint-Sauvignac, selected for the Groupe Ouest annual selection. In parallel with her directing activities, Violette Gitton also works as a child coach: she ensures the physical and moral safety of underage actors on set and advises the directing team on how to direct them.
