1997. Maria Callas, the greatest opera singer that the world has ever known, spends her final months as a recluse in her Parisian apartment.
Larry Clark, a friend and producer, offers her the chance to sing “Carmen” at a huge concert that will be broadcast on television. Given that Maria’s voice is no longer what it once was, he proposes to arrange things technically so that the star’s former golden timbre is restored. Maria accepts, despite the warnings of Sarah, a journalist friend. Larry then organizes another concert, “Tosca”. Maria demands to sing live, no longer wanting to keep up the pretence. Larry refuses.
