French films at Montreal
The Montreal World Film Festival, with its 28th edition held this year from August 26 through September 6, continues to place French films in the spotlight.
No less than 57 French films (including co-productions and short films) are to be presented during the 12 days of the festival.
“Le Rôle de sa vie” by François Favrat and “Genesis” by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou are representing France in competition, before a jury headed by the director Claude Zidi.
Also in competition are the following three co-productions: “The Syrian Bride” by Eran Riklis (France/Israel), “Journées à la campagne” by Raoul Ruiz (France/Chile) and “Waiting for the Clouds” by Yesim Ustaoglu (France/Turkey).
Nine French films will be presented to audiences out of competition, in the "Cinemas of Europe" section, most of which have not been acquired by Quebec distributors.
Some of the highlights of this 28th festival’s action- packed program:
- A tribute to Isabelle Adjani, in the presence of the actress
- A preview screening of “Vipère au poing,” distributed by Séville Films, in the presence of the film’s director, Philippe de Broca
- The festival’s closing ceremony will feature a preview screening of “Les Choristes,” distributed by Alliance Vivafilm, in the presence of its director, Christophe Barratier, and its lead actor, Gérard Jugnot
A delegation of some ten French artists will be in Montreal to attend the event.
