The BIFF confirms its leadership in Asia, with 220,000 spectators registered and 300 films screened this year, attracting large numbers of foreign professionals.
The French selection at the event included around 40 productions and co-productions, most of which were showcased in the World Cinema section. A number of French actors and directors traveled to Korea to present their films and meet with young and enthusiastic audiences: Jean-Pierre Améris, Nabil Ayouch, Carine Tardieu, Agnès Jaoui, Étienne Faure, and Hubert Niogret.
In contrast to the festival, the 7th Asian Film Market held as a sidebar event was less successful in competing with other film markets in the region (predominantly the Hong Kong Filmart and TIFFCOM). However, while the dates of this year's event clashed with Mipcom, the number of sales companies registered increased by 10% over last year. The EFP booth, in which uniFrance Films participated once again this year by representing 12 sales companies, was one of the most-visited booths at a market which, despite its restricted size, allows sales agents to meet with the majority of Korean and Japanese buyers in a more relaxed environment than at the AFM and Toronto.
