The 2012 New York Film Festival, held September 28 through October 14, attracted wide media coverage for its 50th anniversary.
Eight majority French productions featured in this year's official selection: Love by Michael Haneke, Something in the Air by Olivier Assayas, Camille Rewinds by Noémie Lvovsky, Holy Motors by Léos Carax, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet by Alain Resnais, Night Across the Street / Into the Night by Raoul Ruiz, Lines of Wellington by Valéria Sarmiento, and Passion by Brian de Palma.
Three titles were presented in the parallel section: Autrement, la Molussie by Nicolas Rey, Ingrid Caven, musique et voix by Bertrand Bonello, and Becoming Traviata by Philippe Béziat.
The majority of these directors presented their films to enthusiastic audiences, who flocked to screenings held at the Alice Tully Hall, the Walter Reade Theater and the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
A gala tribute was held for Richard Peña, who will no longer serve as program director for the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Richard Peña will be succeeded by Kent Jones for the NYFF and Robert Koehler for the Rendez-vous with French cinema event in New York and other foreign film festivals (such as Italian, Russian and Czech cinema events).
