Anaïs Demoustier, Hitler in Hollywood and The Hedgehog reap awards at Karlovy Vary.
The 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival rewarded French cinema by giving the Best Actress award to Anaïs Demoustier for her performance in Sweet Evil by Olivier Coussemacq, the "East of the West" prize to Aurora by Cristi Puiu and the Fipresci Prize to Hitler in Hollywood, by Frédéric Sojcher. The Hedgehog by Mona Achache was selected to represent France during the festival in the "Variety Critics' Choice: Europe Now!" section, organized by the trade magazine and European Film Promotion. This section comprised 10 new European films by young filmmakers which were showcased over two days to the press and public.
In keeping with tradition of years past, Unifrance and the French Embassy in the Czech Republic again organized a dinner bringing together French film artists, foreign distributors, and journalists to celebrate French cinema.
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is one the most important and most appreciated cinema events of Central and Eastern Europe. The 2010 edition attracted audiences of 126,571 to 380 sessions; 313 artists, 767 film industry professionals and 600 international journalists also attended the week-long event. Now an essential date on the festival calendar, Karlovy Vary is an important rendezvous for cinema professionals who are always delighted by the welcome their films receive.
