This morning, Unifrance held an Extraordinary General Assembly.
Organized at the request of the Exporters’, Artists’, and Short Film Committees, as well as by some members of the Producers’ Committee, this Extraordinary General Assembly allowed for the resolution of an institutional impasse that had resulted from the previous EGA held in June of this year, during which a proposal to widen eligibility conditions for Unifrance’s president to include the association’s four Councils was rejected.
At today’s Assembly, this proposal was ratified. Unifrance’s President will now be selected from among elected representatives of the association’s four committees who have submitted their candidacy. However, under exceptional circumstances, the Board of Directors may, with the agreement of the majority of its members, authorize the candidacy of a personality who has contributed to and supported the French film industry in a significant and continuous manner over a minimum of ten years preceding their candidacy.
Eligibility criteria for producers who are Committee members were also submitted to a vote at the Assembly. Eligibility is now exclusively open to producers who have, in the position of executive producer, produced at least one film in the previous three calendar years.
The extension of the role of the association’s Executive Director was also approved, with the title changed to “Chief Executive Officer.”
These three resolutions were approved by 90% of voters.
Presidential candidates may now present themselves in the lead-up to an election to be held by the Board of Directors planned for early 2009.
