Taken by Pierre Morel is the first French film to be released in Chinese theaters in 2008.
Produced by Luc Besson, Taken will be released on a revenue-sharing scheme with China Film Corporation from April 11 in an impressive 200 theaters spread across 7 provinces as well as the cities of Beijing and Guangzhou (formerly Canton), which account for 60% of annual box office takings.
Taken will hit screens in other parts of China from May 15 (including Shanghai, Chengdu, and Wuhan) on a similar number of prints, bringing the total number of screens to 400.
Pierre Morel has accepted Unifrance’s invitation to accompany his film to China, and will kick off promotional work in Beijing, where he will attend preview screenings of the film followed by meetings with audiences held in several of the city’s cinemas. He will then travel to Chengdu and Shanghai to continue the film’s promotion in the lead up to its release.
