Luc Besson and “Arthur and the Minimoys” in China
Luc Besson is in China to promote his latest film “Arthur and the Minimoys” (also released as “Arthur and the Invisibles”), distributed by Domo Media. Slated for release January 19, the film benefits from one of the most ambitious releases for a French production to date, with 200 prints in circulation across the territory.
Luc Besson will spend three days in Beijing, followed by two days in Shanghai. His trip is financed and jointly organized by Unifrance and the local distributor Domo Media.
A masterclass was held for students at the Beijing Film Academy January 15, with the 1,000-seat auditorium packed to the doors. Luc Besson spared no effort in offering encouragement and advice to students, who obtained special permission to attend this event during a major exam week.
Luc Besson then participated in the recording of a special program on "Arthur and the Minimoys" for the national public broadcaster CCTV6.
On Tuesday, January 16, a press conference will be followed by individual interview sessions and round table discussions with local journalists and a number of Hong Kong journalists covering Besson’s visit. The film will be released in Hong Kong late January, and is distributed locally by Intercontinental Film Distributors Ltd.
A cocktail party to be held on the evening of the 16th, entitled "Arthur," hosted by Unifrance, will bring together members of the Chinese movie industry to meet with Luc Besson.
Finally, an "Arthur and the Minimoys" competition organized by Unifrance, Domo Media, and the Beijing Cultural Center will award two movie tickets each day over ten days, with four major winners drawn randomly from the competition entries. The competition’s top prize is a book on the film shoot of "Arthur and the Minimoys," signed by the director.
