Following previous meetings held in Lyon and Cologne, this year’s Film Meetings will take place in Munich, with Jean-Jacques Beineix and Jan Schütte as honorary presidents of the event. The Franco-German Film Meetings benefit from support from the CNC, the FFA, Unifrance, German Films, Arte France, the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, the city of Munich, ARRI, Bavaria, and the participation of the Ile-de-France Film Commission and Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, as well as German regional film funds.
This fourth edition of the event will be officially opened on the morning of Friday, November 10, by Véronique Cayla, General Director of the CNC (Centre National de la Cinématographie) and her German counterpart, Peter Dinges, General Director of the FFA (FilmFörderungsAnstalt), along with Dr. Klaus Schaefer, Director of the FFF, Bavaria’s regional film funding organization (Filmfernsehfonds Bayern).
The program of the 2006 Film Meetings will focus on the following subjects:
- issues relating to digital film projection
- recent developments in the relationship between the film and television industries and the development of the Video-on-Demand market
- a discussion on Franco-German co-productions, using as reference case studies of current productions
- an investigation of marketing and media strategies in France and Germany
One of the new additions to this year’s Meetings is the presentation of around fifteen young French and German actors to the industry professionals present. This event aims to foster closer ties between these actors and actresses from the two countries, and to give them added exposure in the partner country. On the French side, the following actors and actresses will be present: Amira Casar, Clotilde Courau, Sara Forestier, Clotilde Hesme, Alice Taglioni, Joana Preiss, Yann Trégouët, and Malik Zidi.
And finally, a pitching session will give 20 producers the chance to present their latest projects to potential co-production partners from the other country.
As a complementary program, participants will have the opportunity to visit the ARRI studios and those of Bavaria on Saturday afternoon.
The Franco-German Meetings Association (the name of the association in French is "Les Rendez-vous franco-allemands du cinéma") has Margaret Menegoz (president of Unifrance) as its president. The association’s vice-presidents are Peter Sehr (German director and producer) and Kirsten Niehuus (Film Funding Director at the Medienboard Berlin-Brandebourg). The producer Yves Marmion (UGC YM) is Treasurer.
