French films lighting up German screens this summer

Postponed due to the World Cup, this year’s Munich International Film Festival, held from July 15 through 22, will showcase some ten French productions. This summer promises a rich variety of French titles released in German theaters.

Festival director Andreas Ströhl and the French programming director Robert Fischer made the following selection of French films for 2006:
“Combien tu m’aimes” (“How Much Do You Love Me?”) by Bertrand Blier (to be released August 31 by Concorde)
“Vers le Sud” (“Heading South”) by Laurent Cantet (to be released August 24 by Alamode)
“13 Tzameti” by Gela Babluani (German distributor: MFA)
“Meurtrières” by Patrick Grandperret (German rights acquired by Telepool)
“Un Printemps à Paris” by Jacques Bral (German rights acquired by Telepool)
“Bamako” by Abderrahmane Sissako
“J’ai vu tuer Ben Barka” by Serge Le Peron
“Les Ames grises” (“Grey Souls”) by Yves Angelo
“Les Amitiés maléfiques” (“Poison Friends”) by Emmanuel Bourdieu
“Mütter” by Dominique Lienhard
“Nuit noire, 17 octobre 1961” (“October 17, 1961”) by Alain Tasma

Five directors will make the trip to Munich: Jacques Bral, Patrick Grandperret, Serge Le Peron, Dominique Lienhard, and Gela Babluani, setting French films off to a shining start to the summer season:
July 13, 2006: “Lemming” (Alamode)
July 20, 2006: “L' Ivresse du pouvoir” (Concorde Filmverleih)
July 20, 2006: “Je ne suis pas là pour être aimé” (“Not Here to Be Loved,” Kool Filmdistribution)
August 17, 2006: “Le Cou de la girafe” (“The Giraffe's Neck,” Schwarz-Weiss Filmverleih)
August 24, 2006: “Vers le Sud” (“Heading South,” Alamode)
August 31, 2006: “Bandidas” (Universum Film – BMG)
August 31, 2006: “Combien tu m'aimes? ” (“How Much Do You Love Me?” Concorde Filmverleih)
August 31, 2006: “Fauteuils d'orchestre” (Tobis Film)
