"Amelie" goes to London: fresh hope for French cinema in the United Kingdom

Distributed by Momentum Pictures, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film was released in 82 prints ten days ago and has already scored GBP 1,369,000, representing 195,000 spectators! “Amelie from Montmartre” continues its merry way on the international scene. It’s worth noting that the returns earned after the opening three days equaled 80% of those clocked up by “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” within a similar period. That film went on to earn GBP 9.2 million.
This success confirms that the barriers opposing non-English language films are being progressively worn down.
