Produced by andolfi and Granit films, with sales handled by jour2fête, the film by Alain Gomis was honored at the Berlin International Film Festival with the prestigious Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
Félicité, which tells the story of a nightclub singer in Kinshasa who is trying to scrape together enough money to pay for her son's hospital bills after he is injured in a road accident, deeply moved the jury of this year's Berlinale, led by Paul Verhoeven. The jury thus awarded its Grand Jury Prize to the fourth feature by Alain Gomis' (As a Man, Andalucia, and Today).
Another title from the Official Selection also features in the awards list: the Romanian film Ana mon amour by Călin Peter Netzer (a minority-French co-production, via Dulac Productions) received a Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for its editing (by Dana Bunescu).
In the Panorama section, I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck won 1st Prize in the Audience Award for a Documentary, while the Franco-Belgian production Insyriated by Philippe Van Leeuw picked up the 1st Prize in the Audience Award for Best Fiction Film.
