Five French films were selected for the Berlinale - across all sections - and two shorts walked away with awards this year.
The awards are:
- Audi Short Film Award for PLANET ∑ by Momoko Seko
- Special Prize of the Generation 14Plus International Jury for Coach by Ben Adler (see the interview with the film's producer below)
Two questions for Gaëlle Mareschi, Coach's producer
Founder of emerging film company Fluxus Films, Gaëlle Mareschi is the producer of Coach by Ben Adler.
What was your reaction to winning the prize in Berlin?
We didn't expect it at all! We'd seen almost all the shorts in the section and had been impressed by several directors.
Above all, we were moved to receive this prize from an international jury (Australian director Sophie Hyde, American producer Alix Madigan, Marten Rabarts, director of EYE International), which is to say, to have been judged by people beyond our close circle of friends. It's hugely encouraging.
What film projects lie ahead?
I continue producing short films, alongside my international sales work at Kinology, with the aim of learning more and of discovering filmmakers, throughout Europe, from my generation.
I'm currently working on the second short by a Franco-Portuguese filmmaker, Cristèle Alves Meira (whose first, directed and produced without any financing, was selected for more than 10 international festivals in 4 months), and with an extremely promising Serbian director.
I'm also developing two debut features: a crazy, rock'n'roll project that will shoot in Croatia and Corsica in the summer of 2016, and a "high concept" romantic comedy by Emmanuel Poulain-Arnaud (whose second short film, La Couille, starring Baptiste Lecaplain, I produced).
