For the seventh edition of the Sydney - Film Festival, its five jury members had the task of choosing from twelve films in competition, including another French production, The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq by Guillaume Nicloux. But the jury's vote finally went to Two Days, One Night which was honored for its "masterfully elegant storytelling, its dedication to a fiercely humanistic, super-realist world view, its brave, essential commitment to community solidarity, and its celebration of a woman's power and vitality."

These were the words of praise of the jury president, the Australian director Rachel Perkins. The Dardenne brothers are currently in the Netherlands to promote the release of their film and were unable to attend the awards ceremony in Sydney. They sent a message to the festival stating that they were "delighted and very honored" to win, and that "in Australia, as everywhere else, solidarity is a value worth fighting for."
