A French-Luxembourg short animated film and an Italian-French feature left the Dolby Theater in Hollywood with golden statuettes.
The French film industry left the 86th Academy Awards ceremony, which took place Sunday 2 March in Hollywood, with its head held high.
Mr Hublot, an animated film and French-Luxembourg co-production Watt frame for France, and Zeilt Productions forLuxembourg), by Alexandre Espigares and Laurent Witz, was awarded the Oscar for Best Short Film (Animated). This short has been touring the world's film festivals since last June and picking up awards as it goes. Excerpts can be seen at the film's official website.
And then The Great Beauty, the masterpiece by Paolo Sorrentino and a minority-French co-production (via Babe Films, Pathé Production, and France 2 Cinéma) received the highly prized Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. This is a fine achievement for the man considered to be the greatest contemporary Italian filmmaker.
