The Country Years

A Feature film by Philippe Leriche

Produced by Les Films Ariane

Release in France : 03/06/1992

Jules, a fifteen-year-old adolescent, lives with his grandparents in a house in the Loire Valley. His best and only friend is his moody and maniacal grandfather. JulesU parents live in Paris. An enigmatic, very busy and well-off couple, he hardly every sees them and they have very little time to give to their son. One day, the house has to be sold. The grandparents donUt have enough money to buy it and the three of them, forced to move away, settle in a new district. At first, Jules and his grandfather appear hostile towards this new place but they soon come to like it. For Jules, it means getting to know other boys his age (Redhead, Bert, Shorty...) and the village tart, Evelyne. New pleasures to enjoy: fights, jealousy, the local swimming pool, bars, scooters, girls... A world in which Jules grows up and learns to become a man. When his parents, suddenly concerned about JulesU education, come to see him, they have a car accident which confronts the young man with the realities of life. It means a great upheaval for Jules, the end of his "Country Years"...
