The Mosque

A Feature film by Daoud Aoulad Syad

Produced by Chinguitty Films

Production year : 2010

    Synopsis

The Mosque tells the true story of what happened after the shooting of Moroccan director Daoud Aouled-Syad's previous film "Waiting for Pasolini" (En attendant Pasolini).
To shoot "Waiting Pasolini", the filmmaker had had a set built in Zagora, a small village in southern Morocco. Once the shooting was over, the entire set got dismantled except for the mosque. Some inhabitants took over that mosque, turning it into their place of worship to the detriment of Moha who owns the land the mosque is on, and who therefore has not been able to cultivate it ever since. In this situation, Moha is left desperate and helpless as the survival of his family depends on the farming of that piece of land.
The film, halfway between fiction and reality tells the story of Moha's struggle to get his land back, a struggle that raises theological questions and stirs up religious controversy within the community.
