The saga of Little Peter told through Prokofiev’s music: it’s a great children’s game, a stroll, a journey of initiation between dream and reality, told by an unusual narrator. During the film, young viewers discover three of Prokofiev’s major compositions: “Peter and the Wolf,” “Romeo and Juliette,” and “Winter Bonfire” (a previously unpublished musical tale). While the music and the storylines adhere to the originals, the cinematographic style gives remarkable new life to the educative music film. Pythonesque humor, special effects in the Méliès vein, and a cast of children (apart from one adult) have been combined in this tale celebrating Serge Prokofiev’s musical genius. A film for all the children that lie dormant within us.
