Famous Love Affairs
Synopsis
This film, based on the well-know strip cartoons by Paul Gordeaux in the newspaper "France-Soir", consists of four separate episodes selected as being the most typical of the series. Conducted by nameless guide, a young woman relives these four love affairs, with the following themes and settings :
LAUZUN : The Marquis of Lauzun,the great seducer at the Court of King Louis the Fourteenth, is in love with beautiful Madame de Monaco, but he has to vie with the King for her favours.
JENNY DE LACOUR : A high-class courtesan, Jenny has found the last love of her life in the person of a young fop. She has acid thrown in his face so that she can keep him to herself for always.
THE ACTRESSES : Three young women, at the beginning of the French Empire, are fighting each other for the Baron de la Jonchère... Backstage intrigues and rivalry at the period of the great actor Talma.
AGNES BERNAUER : Secretly married to the prince of Bavaria, Agnès a modest girl from a humble background, is the victim of Court jealousies and is condemned for witchcraft. Thrown into the river, she is followed by her husband who dies with her.
