Daphné loves Vincent, who seeem to love Daphné. Their nascent love would probably blossom if two problems didn't get in the way. One: Vincent is an incurable Don Juan, forever notching up easy conquests. Two: Daphné is fragile, because despite her seeming beauty she lacks confidence and is unaware of her attraction to men. For both reasons Daphé concocts a plan of conquest which would surprise only those who know nothing about female masochism and the tricks it plays.

People used to go to the movies to be entertained. Over the years, though, perhaps because the world appears crueler and crueler, films have gravitated away from fantasy towards reality. Nothing could seem more pointless than a film about beauty when, beyond the Luxembourg Gardens, very serious things are happening. Yet when this script was sent to me, I couldn't resist its lightheartedness.
